I was tired. As I rested my forehead on my arm, with the instrumental Worship piece “revive holiness” playing, softly, subtly. I gazed and my eyes off focused, starring at my keyboard on my lap. My keyboard is black in colour, and precisely, because it is black in colour, the very minute yellow LED light became so bright to me.
I don’t know why I wrote this description, it sounded mellow, with a trickle of gloominess. But as I carry on, I am reminded that we ourselves are dark in our hearts too. And precisely, because we are dark in nature, the least that God had changed in us, would become very bright to us.
What did God do to me? A seemingly blunt question. He showed me a way, He showed me The Way. But I do have to walk too.
I was reminded of the famous “footprints” story that was spreading like wildfire- emails, talks, as a short story in sermons, plates, mugs and so on. “Why were there only 1 pair of footprints?” Asked the worried believer that God has left him, alone, stranded, and guideless. “That was when I carried you in my arms”, came the comforting voice, reassuring millions of hearts. Million of babies’ hearts, that is.
It could be another story altogether. The One up there might say to us, “That was when I seemingly hid my footprints, while still being beside you. That was when you build up your character. That was when you need to start to believe in me, from the heart, and not from the eyes”
The same bottom-line. God never leaves us. However, God wants us to grow too, and He wants a strong pair of legs for us, and not some feeble legs, and that we whine and whimper when the going gets tough. Jesus carried his own cross. We too, must carry our own cross.
Dear God, may we grow, and one day, to become what You have in mind.
In Jesus’ name, Amen
